Whatmakes aoe2 different from other RTS is that the game is much more focused on macro strategy and building. you generally spend about 20 minutes building your town before attacking, in SC 2 or WC 3 the game ends at 20 minutes. this makes it IMO more noob friendly as you can play slowly.
