Objective: To evaluate and compare the efficacy and tolerability of etoricoxib and diclofenac in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip. Methods: In this 6-week double-blind, active comparator controlled, parallel-group study eligible osteoarthritis patients were randomised to receive either etoricoxib 60 mg once daily (n = 256) or diclofenac 50 mg three times daily (n = 260).
The most frequently-occurring adverse events in both groups were of a gastrointestinal (GI) nature. However, there was a higher incidence (26 vs 16%) of GI adverse events in the diclofenac group compared with the meloxicam group. Both drugs were well tolerated when assessed by the patients on a visual analog scale (VAS).
Prescription only. Diclofenac is a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works well to treat pain and swelling in certain conditions, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and menstrual cramps. Unlike patients in the naproxen group, patients in the diclofenac and indomethacin groups showed a significant increase in lipoxin A4 and resolvin E1 (P=0.001 and 0.02, respectively). Conclusion: Diclofenac and indomethacin patient groups had a lower incidence of PEP than the naproxen group. Your first-line treatment will still be over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) and NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen, Advil, naproxen, Aleve). They work better for neck and back pain than muscle relaxants, but there may be a benefit to taking them together, especially at night. Naproxen. Celecoxib is a COX-2-specific NSAID that has a lower propensity for gastrointestinal side effects than many other NSAIDs; however, it still may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic more. Naproxen is effective for the short-term relief of pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, gout, menstruation, andThe study also showed that diclofenac is a better choice than other drugs like naproxen 1,000 mg/day and celecoxib 200 mg/day, which are also nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Moreover, the risk of stomach-related side effects was found to be lower with diclofenac when compared to ibuprofen. Nevertheless, both diclofenac and ibuprofen are
Diclofenac is an effective medicine for relieving pain but may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal side effects compared with some other NSAIDs.
